The residents of the unpresuming, still town greeted their shocked American strangers with open arms, transforming initial mistrust into life-long friendships.

Prior to any Broadway performances began, a Canadian lawyer and theater producer named Micheal Rubinoff became captivated by the events that occurred in Gander, Newfoundland, following the attacks of September 11th. He ultimately choose the dynamic lyricists and composers Irene Sankoff and David Hein to conceive Come From Away’s story. This talented twosome gained an underground discipleship from their fringe production of My Mother's Lesbian Jewish Wiccan Wedding, making them a perfect match for this endeavor.
Come From Away begins with an ordinary day in Gander, Newfoundland. Like the rest of the world, the townsfolk did not realize that their lives and the globe at large would diverge from normalcy. However, the deadly results of 9/11 begin unfolding, forcing nearby American pilots to make emergency landings in Gander.
The planes carried a total of 7,000 passengers of manifold experiences and nearly 20 animals. Red herrings and false information make matters more questionable for everyone. How will the Gander townsfolk accommodate their shocked and weary guests? Will the anxiety bring the passengers and locals closer or create conflict?
The passengers and even the pets eventually exit the tense confines of their aircrafts. customs clash between the Gander citizens and their unanticipated visitors, and tensions grow as the crowd gradually realizes what happened. The empathetic locals ease these increasing stress by awarding honorary citizenship to the bewildered and heartbroken Americans.
Come From Away’s inspirational storytelling techniques earned it international stage time in Australia, the United States, London, and beyond. Much like the story it portrays, its original musical numbers, plot, and captivating characters transcend boundaries. It earned Helen Hayes Awards, a Tony, Drama Desk Awards, and several others.
